Set YOURSELF Free Using the Fire of Forgiveness

Life is full of challenges which involve other people.

Have you noticed that?

Think about it.

If you were here on this planet

all by yourself

how many problems could you have?

Okay, loneliness.

(but notice that is also about people…)

If you were alone here on earth you would literally HAVE IT ALL!

Right?

All the gold,

all the jewels,

all the houses,

all the cars,

all the fortune…

Everything.

Would you be happy?

I doubt it.

We need and want the company of others,

but others are always involved when we have problems.

What to do?

There’s a key distinction you may not know.

That distinction is the source of complete freedom

no matter the circumstances.

As much as other people are part of the circumstances

that are upsetting you,

it is NOT other people that upset you.

It is not NOT the circumstances that upset you.

It is your thoughts about those people,

and your thoughts about those circumstances

that are the source of your negative (or positive) emotions.

And when you know this,

you discover that you have a choice

about what you think.

This is a TOTALLY awesome discovery.

So WAKE UP and MAKE SURE you GET this!

Your thoughts cause your feelings.

You can choose your thoughts.

What are the feelings that feel good?

You get to notice that for yourself,

but common answers are:

JOY.

PEACE.

EXCITEMENT.

ENTHUSIASM.

HAPPINESS.

What are the thoughts that will get you to those feelings?

“All is well.”

“All my needs are met.”

“I’m so grateful for ____ (you fill in the blank).”

“I appreciate ______ .”

“I’m so excited about ______.”

To think these thoughts that lead to good feelings you have to let go of the thoughts you have about people and circumstances that are upsetting you.

To let go of those thoughts, use the fire of forgiveness.

Burn away the ties to what happened in the past.

The purpose of forgiveness is not to condone or excuse

your own or other people’s bad behavior.

If you need to make amends to forgive yourself,

just do it.

The purpose of forgiveness is not to try to convince

yourself that unacceptable circumstances

are really acceptable.

Forgiving others is essential for spiritual growth. Your experience of someone who has hurt you, while painful, is now nothing more that a thought or feeling that you carry around. These thoughts of resentment, anger, and hatred represent slow, debilitating energies that will dis-empower you if you continue to let these thoughts occupy space in your head. If you could release them, you would know more peace. — Wayne Dyer

If something damaging happened to you or to

someone you care about, I understand that you don’t

have “positive” thoughts about that.

And you never will.

If you did something damaging to yourself or others

I understand that you don’t have positive thoughts about that,

and you never will.

But the question is, given what happened, given you can’t change what happened, are you willing to allow that event to define your future?

Are you willing to remain imprisoned by your past?

Are you willing to deny yourself feelings of joy,

excitement, happiness because of those circumstances?

The purpose of forgiveness is to set yourself free

to think the thoughts that will allow you enjoy

every minute of your own life.

I know.

This is a big challenge.

I have had my own unacceptable circumstances

to let go of.

I have had to make amends.

It isn’t easy.

What is your freedom worth to you?

When you know what the options are

given the unchangeable circumstances,

the choice is clear.

Forgive (which, remember, means let go, not condone) and be free, or hold on, and live inside the nightmare.

No one can choose for you.

The choice is yours.

Choose wisely.

Know what you want feel,

and then think the thoughts you need to think

to feel that.

Set yourself free.

Make freedom your number one goal!
